Every year, when the Academy makes a membership count just before Oscar nomination voting begins, TheWrap uses those figures to determine how many votes it’ll take to receive an Oscar nomination in each of the 23 categories.

This year, the answer is easy: It’ll take just about what it took last year.

Now that the Academy has stopped inviting huge groups of new members each year, which it did for six straight years beginning in 2016, the organization is growing more slowly. Only 92 more members are eligible to vote in 2023 than in 2022, and those are spread out across the 17 Academy branches that handle nominations in the majority of Oscar categories.

Bernard Kalb, a veteran journalist and the first anchor of the CNN series “Reliable Sources,” died on Sunday at the age of 100.

Kalb died at his home in Maryland. The Washington Post first reported his death from complications after a fall.

Kalb was the founding anchor and panelist on CNN’s weekly series “Reliable Sources” when it launched in 1993, remaining in the post until 1998. He was succeeded by Howard Kurtz, who was then succeeded by Brian Stelter until the show was canceled in August 2022.

Before “Reliable Sources,” Kalb built an esteemed career as a journalist, working for the New York Times, CBS News and NBC News with a particular interest in international affairs.

After traveling with Henry Kissinger on diplomatic missions alongside his brother, journalist Marvin Kalb, the Kalb brothers wrote the 1974 biography “Kissinger, A Biography.”

Actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are rejoicing after their soccer team Wrexham knocked out EFL Championship team Coventry in a 4-3 upset in the third round of the FA Cup. 

“I’m completely and totally speechless. What a club. What a town. What a win. @Wrexham_AFC forever,” wrote Reynolds on Saturday, including a link to the game coverage from BBC. After beating Coventry, Wrexham — which plays in the fifth-tier National League — may now move forward in a matchup against a Premier League team in the next round depending on the fourth round draw. 

Both Reynolds and McElhenney celebrated online. “Wow. Just… wow. @Wrexham_AFC,” wrote McElhenney in a tweet. “We’re just getting started.  @Wrexham_AFC,” McElhenney said in another tweet. Both of their tweets have never gained more than 10,000 likes.

Irate fans of Celine Dion protested Friday outside the NYC headquarters of Rolling Stone after the magazine left the French Canadian Oscar winner off their list of “200 Greatest Singers of All Time,” which ran the gamut from Frank Sinatra to SZA.

“We are here to express ourselves in the name of Celine, because obviously, you made a big mistake,. We want you to understand you missed the best singer in the world,” one super fan told a Rolling Stone reporter who interviewed some of the group.

The woman, whose accent indicates she is also French Canadian, declined to confirm where she is from, and insisted that being “passionate” about Celine isn’t restricted to people who sound like her: “I could be German or anything.”

Oscar winning composer Michael Giacchino is set to make his feature directorial debut on a remake of 1954 sci-fi film “Them!” at Warner Bros. Giacchino is currently meeting with writers to get a script up and running.

The original 1954 film centered on a nest of gigantic irradiated ants discovered in the New Mexico desert and quickly become a national threat.
